Women's Self Defence Classes

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear/bring?

Combat trousers or tracksuit bottoms are most suitable with a t-shirt. You must wear closed toe trainers with laces or velcro. We will be doing a lot of physical activity so it is advisable not to wear your best clothes. Bring a bottle of water/sports drink to keep you hydrated throughout the session. You will be asked to remove all visible jewellery, as this could be harmful to you and the other group members. If you are attending a whole day session then bring a packed lunch. Hot drinks will be provided.

I’ve paid for a session and now I can’t make it

Don’t worry, we all lead busy lives. Have a look at our classes page, find a suitable alternative and I can transfer your booking. You can either call or email the details.

I’m not very fit so I’m not sure I should attend?

There are no fitness levels required for these classes. However, please give me a call if you have any concerns and we can have a chat.

I’ve never done any Karate or Martial Arts?

That’s ok, neither have I. You absolutely do not need to have any martial arts experience to attend.

How do I know I will be safe?

I have many years experience of running training sessions just like these ones. The classes are restricted to 12 ladies so you will always find the environment safe and comfortable. I have completed a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for each venue. There are an agreed set of safety standards that I make everyone aware of, and agree to before the commencement of any physical training.

I want to bring along my 12-year-old daughter?

Brilliant, I couldn’t think of a better activity for mother and daughter to do together.

Are there any age restrictions?

A responsible adult must accompany any one attending under the age of 16. That adult will be actively encouraged to take part in the session as well.

What happens if I can’t make one of the weekly sessions that I am booked on?

Let me know at your earliest convenience and I can try and arrange an alternative session for you to attend.

What happens after I complete the foundation course?

I run regular Advanced Sessions that you can attend whenever you like. Have a look at our list of current sessions.

I don’t know what to expect, I feel a little bit nervous?

That is perfectly normal. If you have any concerns whatsoever please do not hesitate to give me a call. I can come and meet you for a coffee and a chat if that would help? When you arrive at the session you will find a very friendly, safe and relaxed environment with other likeminded women.
